Two Separate Attacks In 3 Days Kills 25 Christians

6/10/2024 DRC (International Christian Concern) — Members of the Islamic extremist Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) killed nine people in a brutal massacre on June 6 in the Mununze village in the Rwenzori region of Beni territory, Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Members of the militia dumped the victims’ bodies in the nearby Loulo River.

“The tranquility of our village was shattered by these cruel actions, leaving a trail of sorrow and despair in its wake,” said Masumbuko, one of the survivors. “Though some of us managed to escape, many families were torn apart, their cries echoing through the now somber streets. The sense of security that once enveloped our village has been replaced by fear and anguish.”

Manara, one of the leaders in the area, said villagers are grieving after realizing that the victims had been killed and thrown in a river that they use for drinking and other domestic work.

“The murder of innocent lives casts a shadow of mourning over the once vibrant community,” he said. “Out of the nine people who were killed and thrown in river Loulo, we managed to get only four bodies. The other five bodies have not been seen yet.”

The bishop of Beni Anglican Church said that the church in the DRC strongly condemns these killings because when such things happen, families are torn apart, which is against God’s will.

“The memory of those who lost their lives will forever be etched in our hearts as a solemn reminder of the urgent need for unity to end these actions,” the bishop said. “As the church, let’s stand together as an eye of hope amidst despair. May we honor the memory of the fallen by striving for a world where such senseless acts of violence have no place and where every life is cherished and protected.”

This attack occurred three days after the same rebels slaughtered 16 people in Kabweke village, located in Kantine, Beni territory.
