An estimated 1,000 Pakistani women and girls from religious minorities are abducted and forced into conversions and marriage each year. Pakistan's Islamic government and legal system supports this situation, often for religious (Islamic) reasons. Pakistani courts often refer to Sharia Law and passages from the Koran in justifying their decisions. Under Sharia Law, non-Muslims are explicitly not given the same rights as Muslims, one of many aspects making Sharia Law incompatible with Western legal systems.
