1-6-2020 - An al-Shabaab terrorist attack on on the joint U.S.-Kenyan military base, Camp Simba, left three Americans dead, including a service member and two Department of Defense contractors. Several others, both American and Kenyan, were injured. Several aircraft at the Manda Air Strip at Camp Simba were also damaged in the attack, which included the use of a car bomb. Four terrorists were killed, and at least five others have been arrested.
Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, more commonly known as al-Shabaab, is a Muslim jihadist group based in Somalia, but active throughout East Africa. Al-Shabaab is a Sunni muslim group affliated with al-Qaeda, and has no known ties to Shiite muslim Iran. The attack does not appear connected to Iran's threats of retaliation for the U.S. airstrike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
