Burkina Faso Bus Bombing, Killing School Children, Named Atrocity of the Week

By Timothy Gamble

1-9-2020 - Religion of Peace, a website that monitors and tracks terrorism and violence committed worldwide in the name of Islam, has named the January 4 bombing of a school bus in West African nation of Burkina Faso, as 2020's first "Atrocity of the Week." The bombing killed 14 and injured 9, most of which were students returning to school after the holiday break.

Islamic extremism has been growing in recent years in Burkina Faso, with over 1,000 civilians killed by jihadist groups in 2019 alone. On Christmas Eve, Islamic jihadists killed at least 35 civilians, mostly women, in an attack in northern Burkina Faso.

Approximately 60% of the Burkina Faso population is Muslim, with about 23% being Christian, according to government statistics.
