Virginia's Assault Weapons Ban Stopped (for now) in State Senate

By Timothy Gamble

2-17-2020 - Virginia's HB 961, the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" passed by the Virginia House of Delegates last week, was tabled this Monday morning by the Virginia Senate's Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Committee.voted 10 to 5 to postpone consideration of the bill until 2021. Four Democrats joined the committee's six Republicans in the vote. It is possible for the committee to decide to consider the bill earlier, but it would require a second vote with at least 3 of the Democrats changing their vote.
