By Timothy Gamble

2-10-2020 (Atlanta, GA) - Four members of the Chinese military are now indicted for the 2017 Equifax data breach that exposed almost 150 million American's social security numbers, birth dates, diver's license information, and other personal and financial records. An Atlanta federal court charged each the four with nine counts related to economic espionage.

The hackers are identified as Wu Zhiyong (吴志勇), Wang Qian (王乾), Xu Ke (许可) and Liu Lei (刘磊). All four are members of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's 54th Research Institute. The four are now on the FBI's Most Wanted list.

According to the FBI "In a single breach, the PLA obtained sensitive identifying information for nearly half of all American citizens, and personally identifiable information belonging to nearly a million citizens of the United Kingdom and Canada."
