Need To Know Briefing for 1-14-2020

By Timothy Gamble

ALERT: WHO Warns That New Viral Pneumonia in China May Be Contagious  (Epoch Times) There are currently 41 diagnosed cases in Wahun, China, with 1 dead and 6 hospitalized in severe condition. A Chinese tourist in Thailand has also been diagnosed. Not yet a major concern, but this outbreak bears watching.

Tweet of the Day is from Senator Mitch McConnell: "In December, House Democrats pulled the plug on their investigation and impeached because they said it was urgent & they had already proven their case. But now they’ve delayed for weeks to insist that the Senate re-open their inquiry. So – neither urgent nor persuasive?"

Elite Watch (The Internal Threat)

Private property rights are under attack in the name of fighting "climate change." Kian Goh, UCLA urban planning professor, wrote in The Nation magazine, “if we want to keep cities safe in the face of climate change, we need to seriously question the ideal of private homeownership.” Duggan Flanakin, Director of Policy Research at the Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) says this message may be finding an audience "with millennials postponing or wholly ignoring marriage while dealing with heavy student loan debt and greater mobility" and therefore find home ownership as an unimportant goal. (CFACT blog post)

A paid campaign staffer (not a volunteer as has been misreported by some in the mainstream media) has been caught on tape making a case for concentration camps for Trump supporters and conservatives. In it he states that Stalin and gulags were good, claimed that gulags paid a living wage, and went on to say that
billionaires should be sent to gulags to break them of “privilege.”

Islam Watch (The External Threat/Stealth Invasion)

Islamic Scholars Association: ‘George Washington Killed Indians Because They Were Muslims’ (Geller Report). No, this is not a joke.  Sheikh Salem Salameh, Deputy Head of the Palestine Islamic Scholars association and a member of Hamas Legislative Council, stated that "fact" in a December 26, 2019 interview on Mayadeen TV. According to Salameh, George Washington "killed Native Americans because they were Muslims who had mosques."

A Muslim man, 25 year old Osama E. El Hannouny, has been arrested and chargbed with slashing 19 tires at church in Palos Hills, Illinois, because he "doesn't like Christians." (WBBM Newsradio)

China Watch (The Opportunistic and Long-Term Threat)

China Pressures World Into Silence on Its Human Rights Record (Epoch Times). A report has been issued by Human Rights Watch (HRW) stating that China is using its economic clout to silence its critics and extend its censorship to the rest of the world, especially regarding the ongoing protests in Hon Kong. Kenneth Roth, HRW’s executive director, said at a Jan. 14 press conference at the United Nations: "The Chinese government is terrified of admitting this genuine desire for democracy on territory that they rule.... [because] what’s happening in Hong Kong might spread to the mainland—and that’s really the big fear."

Tech Watch (The Threat from Hi-Tech and AI)

At a meeting of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, Sectary of State Mike Pompeo Warns US Tech Companies Against Aiding Chinese Regime’s ‘Orwellian Surveillance State’ (Epoch Times). Pompeo quote: "We need to make sure American technology doesn’t power a truly Orwellian surveillance state. We need to make sure American principles aren’t sacrificed for prosperity."  I would add that we need to make sure tech doesn't power a truly Orwellian surveillance state in America, too.
